Transportation Planning Practice Leader

Job Description

This is an opportunity within an award-winning, privately held, Texas-based firm that provides planning, design and management services in all aspects of civil, traffic and transportation engineering, public works and municipal services, and program and construction management. This growing firm is seeking to hire a talented individual to lead and manage its transportation planning practice.

Responsibilities
  • Develops business and future projects by identifying clients and client needs, marketing to clients for delivery of solutions; serves as client relations manager as assigned
  • Collaborates with leadership and business development department to identify project opportunities, develops and prepares qualification submissions
  • Prepares proposals to provide professional services and assists in business development activities
  • Manages assigned project(s) for successful delivery to clients by coordinating and implementing project planning, risk management, schedule development, budget development, establishment and implementation of project controls, client communications, and managing change
    Directs project staff of planners, engineers, technicians, administrative personnel, as required and assigned for the project(s) to achieve successful results for the client
  • Plans, schedules, and/or coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple projects
Qualifications
  • Ability to effectively execute and manage work of TxDOT groups for transportation systems, planning, environmental studies, and schematic development (1, 2 and 3)
  • Ability to maintain currency regarding new methods and developments for projects, and recommend new practices or changes in emphasis for programs
  • Ability to manage complex projects or programs with varied scope
  • Ability to represent the organization and maintain liaison with individuals and related organizations
  • Ability to mentor and develop project managers, assistant project managers, planners, technical and support team members
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in order to interact with employees, clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others
  • Ability to effectively lead meetings and make presentations
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Knowledge of current principles and practices of planning and engineering related to transportation infrastructure and the environment
  • Specialty Certification such as PMP desirable

Salary commensurate with experience
